Someone has rightly said, that opportunities don’t just happen, one needs to create them. And Rutuja Kumthekar sets the perfect example. Because despite facing many bumps on the way, Rutuja kept chasing her dreams.

About Rutuja Kumthekar

Rutuja was born and brought up in the small Maharashtrian city of Kolhapur. She is the elder daughter of a family of four, with a younger brother after her. The primary source of income in her family is the tailoring business, which her parents run from their home. Her father used to work for Raymond but the Covid-19 pandemic affected them severely, which led to her parents starting their own business at home.

As the elder child, Rutuja always took interest in how everything was functioning around her household. At a young age, she used to voluntarily involve herself in her family’s finances.

Rutuja’s career transformation with Newton School

Although Rutuja pursued a B.Tech degree, she did not find enough opportunities through her institution. Her college did not offer many possibilities for placements.

Once Rutuja started to explore the job market, she also realised that she lacked the skills that were needed to join the software industry, despite having the qualifications.

This is when Rutuja decided to join Newton School, after talking to some of her friends who were placed through Newton School.

At Newton School, Rutuja worked hard and studied with sheer determination. She learned all the skills that she lacked and became an expert at them, which included DSA, along with HTML, JAVA and more. These languages were very new to Rutuja, and although she struggled with them momentarily, she picked up the pace quite quickly.

“The mentors were very supportive and they always kept a check on my progress. They would always call me before mock interviews to give me feedback and keep me motivated”, said Rutuja during a conversation with Newton School.

Where is Rutuja today?

Today, Rutuja works as a software developer at a leading international company called Light & Wonder. After getting placed, she said, “My father never imagined that I’d be placed at a renowned organization like Light & Wonder”.
